Masculine Birthday Cards with Stampin’ Up! Stamp & Die Set, Gears & Textures
Creating masculine cards can sometimes feel challenging, but I had so much fun designing these bold and textured birthday cards using the Gears & Textures Stamp & Die Set from Stampin’ Up!. I absolutely love the industrial, grunge-inspired look and how easily you can create strong masculine designs with layers, texture, and rich colors.
These cards were inspired by a beautiful design created by Crafty Concepts with Erin. I loved the style and creative approach and used that inspiration to develop my own masculine birthday card designs using the Gears & Textures Stamp & Die Set.
I needed four birthday cards for this month, so of course I made a few extras while I was creating!

Designer Series Paper Backgrounds
For these cards, I mixed several Designer Series Papers along with craft cardstock from my stash. One of my favorite discoveries was using the B-sides of floral papers — they create surprisingly perfect masculine backgrounds.
Papers used include:
- Wildly Flowering Designer Series Paper
- Botanical Textures Designer Series Paper
- Lovely Garden Designer Series Paper
- Brushed Beauty Designer Series Paper
- Craft cardstock from my stash
Layering these patterns added depth and interest while giving each card its own unique look and personality.

Stamps, Dies & Sentiments
For the birthday greetings and text elements, I used a combination of several sets:
- SU Birthday Celebrations
- SU Round We Go
- SU Product of the Month: Fabulous Sayings
- Close to My Heart Starter Alphabet
To enhance the grunge look, I added more texture by using the retired Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and Textured Notes dies.

Colors & Special Details
I used a warm, masculine color palette of inks & papers throughout the designs:
- Pecan Pie
- Early Espresso
- Black ink
- Basic Beige (for most sentiments)
- Basic Black (lighter side for one sentiment)
- Two-tone cardstock
I also incorporated Earthen Metallic Paper (which I absolutely love) along with gold and silver accents from my stash. I also did a light sanding on the metallic papers. Giving it the distressed look.
For a fun detail, I inked the light bulbs with Crushed Curry and blended color around them to create a glowing effect.
My Favorite Technique: Distressed Edges
One technique I always enjoy using is distressing the edges of the paper. It’s very satisfying and gives the cards a rugged, worn texture that fits perfectly with masculine designs.
Card Size Choice
For these projects, I used a larger A6 card size (6.5 × 5 inches). I personally feel the larger format gives the cards a stronger, more masculine presence — and it also provides more space for layering and texture.
